Campground Rules

We hope you enjoy your stay with us and thank you for respecting our rules.

These are in place so your stay is more enjoyable, and so we can protect the Lakes and Domain for future generations.

Bookings, cancellations and changes

Accommodation is non-refundable and non-transferable should guests decide to alter or leave before their scheduled departure date. This includes (but not limited to) change of mind and inclement weather. 

To confirm your booking, confirmation of payment is required ten or more days before your arrival date or prior to your arrival if you make your booking with less than 10 days notice, either online or by bank transfer.  We no longer accept campers without a confirmed booking.

Changes to Booking (dates) are permitted if within the same season (01 July to 30 June), no less than seven (7) days notice and are subject to availability.  An administration fee of $10.00 per change will apply for any amendments to Pine Beach and Promenade Point campground bookings.  

Check-in and Check-out

Check-in from 11.00am until closing.

Check-out/departure

All campers must vacate their campsite by 10.00am on the day they are leaving.

Dogs and Pets

Dogs and pets are not permitted on the Taharoa Domain (land area surrounding Kai Iwi Lakes) as we need to protect our native fauna and flora.  A disability assist or public service dog (as interpreted in the Dog Control Act 1996), may be permitted with written approval.  Verifiable evidence of certification by one of the organisations listed below will be required in all circumstances. Please advise us ahead of your stay if you're bringing a service animal.
Public service dogs
Owned and trained by:

  • New Zealand Police
  • New Zealand Customs Service
  • Department of State
  • Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management
  • Department of Conservation.

These dogs are trained for the specific purpose of the government agency that owns them.

Disability assist dogs
Disability assist dogs are registered with one of these organisations:

  • Assistance Dogs New Zealand
  • Hearing Dogs for Deaf People New Zealand
  • K9 Medical Detection New Zealand
  • Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust
  • New Zealand Epilepsy Assist Dogs Trust
  • Perfect Partners Assistance Dogs Trust
  • Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind Incorporated

Drainage

Trenches can be dug if necessary and must be filled in later.

Drinking water

The water at Taharoa Domain is not supplied from a potable water source. You will need to bring your own drinking water with you.  The water supplied is only to be used for cleaning, showering and the toilets.

Electric Vehicle Charging

Electric vehicle charging is not permitted on the powered sites at our campgrounds. There is NOT a dedicated vehicle charging station located on the Taharoa Domain.  Please refer to the NZTA Journey Planner for details of EV Charging Stations through New Zealand.

Firearms

Safety is paramount: No firearms of any type, this includes air guns.

Fires

Please, under no circumstances light any type of fire within the Domain. This includes Webbers and Braziers. Gas cooking only.

Flora

All plant life in the Domain is protected.

Freedom Camping

Freedom camping is prohibited on Taharoa Domain (the land surrounding Kai Iwi Lakes).

Generators / Marquees

Permission must be requested and only in special circumstances will these be allowed.

Hours

Gates will be locked at 9.30pm and re-opened at 7.00am.

New Year's Eve

No fireworks, no exception.

Noise

Our visitors come for the peace and tranquillity, so no noise after 10.30pm. This includes radios and musical instruments.

Rubbish and Recycling

Please use the allocated rubbish bins. There is a designated recycling area for bins cans, plastic and glass.

Washing/Laundry

There are no laundry facilities at either of the campgrounds. No washing of any sort in the lakes, this includes vehicles, boats, bodies and hair. Please use the shower facilities for personal washing. Keeping the lake waters clean and pristine is a priority.

Waste

All LIQUID waste is to be disposed of in the water sumps.
